DFA Records, home to bands like LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, and Hercules And Love Affair are at the forefront of the current disco revival, partly thanks to Holy Ghost!, the duo of Nick Milhiser and Alex Frankel. Known for their brand of 80s style synthesizers, the two are candidates to succeed LCD Soundsystem at DFA. Holy Ghost! has been releasing singles for the past few years but their debut album last year was worth the wait. The New York duo will be performing in Buenos Aires April 14 at Groove.
We had a quick chat with the guys before they left for Buenos Aires.
So can you tell us a little about your background and your progression to where you are now in the music industry?
Well I’m not sure where we are. But we started making music together very young – age 15 or so – and have been working together since. We have gotten a lot of help along the way by some great friends and musicians.
You guys just released your first album last year, how has your music has evolved from some of your earlier singles?
Actually I don’t think it’s changed all that much. I guess maybe vocally I got more confident and the lyric content has started to shift to more narrative than abstract.
You are also known for your remixes, what is your creative process when remixing tracks?
Add and subtract till it sounds right. Treat it like one of our own songs – give it time to work itself out, dont rush.
Who are some of the artists that you are currently listening to that we should check out?
Chairlift, Blood Orange, Twin Shadow, and everyone on DFA Records.
Besides your show, what are you looking forward to in Buenos Aires?
